Helio to Get Up to $270 Million From SK Telecom

Atlanta - EarthLink, one of the largest ISPs in the U.S., on Friday confirmed that Korea's SK Telecom will invest up to $270 million in Helio, the companies' wireless voice and data services joint venture.

Helio ended August with 130,000 subscribers, and expects to end the year with between 200,000 and 250,000 subscribers and revenue of between $140 and $170 million, EarthLink said on Friday.

Helio, which is marketed to the youth demographic and touts a MySpace mobile application, expects a loss of between $340 million and $360 million for the year.

Satellite DSL

This is an excellent article about wireless voice and data services. However, satellite DSL should be considered as an alternative, particulary in rural areas without regular DSL access.
