Authored by Mark Hefflinger on September 21, 2007 - 8:40am.

Morgan Hill, Calif. - A trade group of consumer electronics firms, technology developers and movie studios this week approved a new technology that will allow consumers to burn movies they download from online services to DVDs that will play in any player.

The DVD Copy Control Association's board of directors approved the download-to-burn technology, which will require that consumers purchase special DVD drives and blank DVDs.

The download-to-burn feature could be utilized by movie download stores operated by CinemaNow, Blockbuster (Movielink), Wal-Mart and Amazon.com.
