Santa Monica, Calif. - Video game publisher Activision announced on Wednesday that it has acquired racing game developer Bizarre Creations.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 1994, Liverpool, U.K.-based Bizarre Creations is the developer behind the Xbox racing franchise "Project Gotham Racing," in addition to "Formula 1" and "The Club," a third-person action game it is creating for Sega.

Activision expects its first title from Bizarre will ship to market after fiscal year 2009.

"Bizarre Creations will play an important role in our growth strategy as we develop an original new intellectual property for this important racing segment, expand our portfolio in other genres and utilize their proprietary technology for cross platform development," said Activision Publishing president and CEO Mike Griffith.
