Washington - The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reportedly is considering fines against XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio for a series of rules violations regarding the companies' receivers, online industry magazine Radio Ink reported on Thursday.

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin said that his office is investigating claims that some of the companies' receivers operate at levels that exceed federal limits.

Other claims allege that XM's terrestrial repeaters have been operating beyond allowable power levels.

There's no word on when a final decision could be handed down.
