Dulles, Va. - AOL parent Time Warner may be preparing to spin off its newly formed advertising unit through an initial public offering (IPO), TechCrunch reported on Thursday.

AOL, which recently announced plans to move its headquarters from Dulles, Va. to New York, is combining its various digital advertising companies, including Advertising.com, Tacoda, Third Screen Media, Lightningcast, and AdTech, into a unit known as "Platform A."

TechCrunch, citing a "knowledgeable source," reported that "the decision has been made internally at Time Warner to try to spin off Platform A through an IPO sometime early next year."

AOL has declined to comment.
