Hannah Montana’s Miley Cyrus is 2007’s Biggest Live Act

Miley Cyrus is putting on one of the most successful tours of all timePrior to reading the headline, if you had one guess which band or artist is 2007’s most popular, who would it be?  Justin Timberlake?  The Police?  It’s Miley Cyrus, the 14-year-old star of Disney’s Hannah Montana.  According to the AP, she has sold out her entire 54-show tour, and some tickets are going for five times the face value (The Spice Girls didn’t do too bad on their upcoming tour either, as you can see here).

Some statistics from the tour are staggering:

  • A ticket for a Charlotte, North Carolina show sold for $2,565
  • 12,000 seats in Memphis sold out in 8 minutes
  • Tickets for the Atlanta appearance were gone in 4 minutes

"We knew it was hot, but we had no idea it was this crazy," said Debra Rathwell, senior vice president of tour handler AEG Live. "It's like the Beatles."

Feeling old or out of touch?  It’s only the latest example of the divide between adults and kids.  To the latter, Miley Cyrus and the Hannah Montana series are bigger than anything adults are watching, listening to, or buying today.  About 5 million viewers tune in to Hannah Montana each week.

"Miley is opening for me in Nashville," Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley’s father, told People Magazine last week. "She plays the [Sommet Center] arena with 18,000 people on Thursday night and I play the Wildhorse Saloon for 1,800 on Friday night."
