The Spice Girls Sell Out Dec 15th London Show in 38 SecondsAuthored by Scott Goldberg on October 1, 2007 - 12:14pm.
The London reunion concert for the Spice Girls – the group’s first show in nine years – sold out in 38 seconds, according to the BBC. "It was a dramatic moment," said TicketMaster head Chris Edmonds. "The sales went live and there was a huge surge as fans bombarded the lines." Over 1 million people registered for the concert at London’s O2 Arena on December 15th, and three shows have been added because of the demand on December 16th, 18th, and January 2nd.
The Spice Girls disbanded in 1998 when Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwel quit because of “differences” in the band. They’ve sold more than 55 million records worldwide, thanks in large part to the success of the single Wannabe (I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really what. So tell me what you want, what you really, really want…Pure magic, isn’t it?).
Tickets are already going for $1500 on eBay.
Here’s a question to the millions of fans that helped the Spice Girls, of all bands, break a record for the speed of a concert sellout: What’s the deal? Out of genuine curiosity, why the insanity? It’s the Spice Girls. What kind of show are you expecting\? |
