Redmond, Wash. - Microsoft said on Tuesday that it has acquired Jellyfish.com, a Madison, Wisc.-based comparison shopping search engine.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"We think the technology has some interesting potential applications as we continue to invest heavily in shopping and commerce as a key component of Live Search," Microsoft said on its Live Search blog.

Jellyfish previously raised $5 million in venture capital in October 2006.

The company offers users of its search engine rebates on their purchases, funded through the advertising revenue generated by the site itself -- which only charges advertisers when consumers purchase their products.
