San Diego - Sony Electronics on Tuesday introduced its second-generation Reader Digital Book, which will go on sale for $300 later this month at Borders stores and from Sony's website.

The PRS-505 will be available in silver and dark blue, and feature re-styled controls the company says more closely mimic paper page turning.

The device has capacity for up to 160 typical e-books, plus expansion slots for additional Memory Stick Duo or SD memory cards.

It will also feature a new USB-based mass storage capability, allowing consumers to use the device as a portable drive for the direct transfer of documents, images and other files to the Reader.

Sony said its Connect online store now offers more than 20,000 downloadable e-book titles.

A promotion for new Reader purchasers will provide a credit for 100 Connect Classics titles, which include works from Shakespeare, Jane Austen and H.G. Wells.
