San Francisco - Wikinvest, the developer of a wiki-based website that covers the investing community, has raised $2.5 million in its first round of financing, led by DCM, PEHub.com reported.

San Francisco-based Wikinvest provides user-generated investing information for companies in a range of markets, in a "wiki" format where anyone can post information and edit the entries of others.

The company says it protects against potential misinformation by prioritizing the contributions of its most-trusted users, much like the better-known wiki-based site, Wikipedia.

*Clarification: Wikinvest covers only publicly-traded companies, and not the venture capital market as initially reported.
