Sunnyvale, Calif. - Yahoo on Tuesday introduced what it is calling the biggest upgrade to its Web search service in over three years, which includes real-time search "suggestions" and more links to video, audio and photos integrated into search results.

Yahoo claimed 32% of the U.S. search market in early 2005, compared to Google's 35%, but its share has since dropped to 23% as of August, while Google has climbed to 56.5%, according to data from comScore Media Metrix.

Yahoo's search engine will now provide a drop-down menu of suggestions and related topics when consumers type search queries, while results will include shortcuts to ratings and reviews, photos and official websites for searches related to events, music, movies, sports and other topics.

"We know that consumers want a complete answer, not a bunch of links, and the changes we've made are focused on getting people to the best answer -- whether it be a Web link, photo, video or music clip -- in one search," said Vish Makhijani, general manager and senior vice president of Yahoo Search.
