HBO to Tackle the Duke Rape Case

Authored by Scott Goldberg on October 3, 2007 - 6:05am.
Mike Nifong, former Durham, NC District AttorneyHBO has acquired the rights to the book "Until Proven Innocent: Political Correctness and the Shameful Injustices of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case," written by Stuart Taylor Jr. and K.C. Johnson.  The book, about the prosecution of three Duke University lacrosse players for the gang rape of a stripper at a team party, was published by Thomas Dunne Books.

HBO will develop the book into a movie.

According to the book, the former Durham, NC district attorney Mike Nifong used the media to bash the students and raise racial hatred in order to win votes for his reelection.  He withheld and ignored important evidence that disproved his case as well, and has subsequently been disbarred.

Josh Maurer will be the film’s executive producer along with Alixandre Witlin.  Maurer’s previous credits with HBO include The Pentagon Papers and Introducing Dorothy Dandridge.
