McLean, Va. - Mixx, a social media site that lets users create personalized news feeds, announced on Tuesday that it has raised an undisclosed sum in first round funding from Intersouth Partners, and plans to launch a public beta test of its service this month.

McLean, Va.-based Mixx has signed deals with publishers including USA Today, Reuters, The Weather Channel, Kaboose and uclick Comics that will allow Mixx users to access their news, images and video directly from its website.

"For the first time publishers of non-tech content have a simple way to access the Web 2.0 social networking phenomenon, reaching out virally and within communities both large and small from a single access partner," said Chris McGill, founder and CEO of Mixx.

McGill was previously head of strategy at USA Today and general manager of Yahoo News.
