myspace logoLos Angeles - News Corp.'s MySpace online social network plans next week to introduce a platform that will allow third-party developers to create applications that run on MySpace, similar to the popular service on rival Facebook, TechCrunch reported, citing third-party developers consulted on the project.

The applications can include Flash applets, iFrame elements and Javascipt.

While they will need to be hosted on MySpace servers, the company will allow developers to serve their own ads within the applications, and retain all revenue.

Since Facebook launched its third-party application platform in May, over 5,000 applications have been introduced.
