Seoul, South Korea - Sony Computer Entertainment Korea plans to launch a service next month that will enable the PlayStation 3 to act as a set-top box to receive telecom KT's Mega TV IPTV service, The Korea Times reported.

The partnership -- Sony's first foray into using the PlayStation 3 as an IPTV set-top box -- would allow gamers to download programs to the PlayStation 3 and view them on their televisions at any time.

"With this partnership, Mega TV will include high-definition games and Blue-Ray (sic) media in its periphery," Lee Young-hee, chief of the Media Center at KT, told The Korea Times.

"We will seek more cooperation with SCEK to create synergy."
