San Francisco - Needing additional time to gain stockholder approval, HandHeld Entertainment said on Tuesday that it has extended by 31 days the closing date of its acquisition of eBaum's World.

The deal had been scheduled to close by Oct. 15.

HandHeld, a maker of portable media players and operator of entertainment websites, said in August that it would pay $17.5 million in cash and stock to acquire eBaum's World, a New York-based online entertainment site featuring user-generated videos, games, jokes, photos and other humor-related content.

At the time, HandHeld said that the deal was a "perfect fit" with its ZVUE network of humor-based websites, and should help the company move close to cash-flow positive.
