Apple Picks Orange for iPhone in France; "Unlocked" Model Expected

Authored by Mark Hefflinger on October 18, 2007 - 10:06am.

Cupertino, Calif. - As anticipated, Apple has announced that Orange, France's largest wireless carrier, will be the exclusive partner for the launch of the iPhone there on Nov. 29.

Apple will offer the 8GB iPhone in France for Euro 399 ($570).

However, unlike other deals in the U.S., U.K. and Germany, France has laws barring tying a mobile phone to a specific network, so the companies are also expected to sell an officially "unlocked" iPhone for an as yet undisclosed price.

Apple has already announced exclusive iPhone distribution deals with T-Mobile in Germany and O2 in the U.K.
