Los Angeles - IDG Worldwide announced on Monday that an estimated 18,000 turned out over four days for the E for All Expo, the company's inaugural consumer-focused video game event held last week at the Los Angeles Convention Center, the former home of the mammoth E3 game expo.

The event featured Nintendo, Electronic Arts and over 70 other exhibitors, although notably absent were console makers Sony and Microsoft.

Attendance was less than one-third of the crowd in previous years at E3, which the game industry drastically downsized after the 2006 event.

"We are thrilled with the attendance, and we are pleased that we delivered the event we aimed for, which was a celebration that truly was for the entire game community," said IDG World Expo CEO Mary Dolaher.

GameDaily.com reported that Dolaher said in August she hoped the event would draw between 20,000 and 30,000.

IDG said it plans to host another E for All Expo next year, again at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
