Milpitas, Calif. - SanDisk, a maker of flash storage media and portable media players, on Monday introduced the TakeTV Video Player, a device that moves video content from the PC to a TV, and also launched a public beta of Fanfare, an online service that lets users download TV shows, movies and other video content to portable devices.

The TakeTV player functions much like a USB drive, where users can drag-and-drop video files from a PC to the player, and then slip it into a TV cradle -- which connects to standard A/V sockets on a television.

The flash-based device will be offered in 4GB ($99) and 8GB ($149) models.

Alongside the TakeTV player, Sansa launched Fanfare, a site that will offer a mix of free, ad-supported videos and paid episodes for download to portable devices.

Initial content partners include CBS, Showtime Networks, Smithsonian Networks, The Weather Channel and Jaman.com.

At launch, 85 titles including "CSI," "Survivor China" and "Dexter" can be downloaded directly to Sansa's TakeTV player via the Fanfare service, with dozens more expected to be added weekly.

In addition to TakeTV, SanDisk said that Fanfare content will also be downloadable to mobile phones, handheld computers and TVs themselves.
