Schaumburg, Ill. - Motorola Ventures announced on Wednesday that it has made an equity investment in Siimpel Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of chips used in mobile imaging applications.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Motorola said Siimpel's technology will allow cameras on devices such as cell phones to provide features such as auto-focus, shutter and zoom.

"Increased expectations of imaging systems in phone handsets, laptops, PDA's and micro-cameras has created a global demand for low cost micro-scale imaging systems," said Siimpel CEO Tony Tang.
