Rockville, Md. - ZeniMax Media, a developer and publisher of video games for consoles, PCs and handheld devices, said on Thursday that it has landed a $300 million investment from Providence Equity Partners.

Maryland-based ZeniMax said that it will use the proceeds to fund its future growth, increase its game development and publishing activities, make acquisitions and finance massively multiplayer online games.

ZeniMax Media was founded in 1999 by Robert Altman, its chairman and CEO, and counts Bethesda Softworks -- which last year released the popular "Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" title -- among its subsidiaries.
