He Just Put a Cramp on MTV's WeekendAnd now, shocking news has hit the airwaves: MTV’s The Hills…are you sitting down for this?...is SCRIPTED.  Did you honestly believe otherwise?  Take our Reality TV poll and tell us what you think.  According to Gavin Beasley, who went on a date with the show’s lead, Lauren Conrad, this Monday’s scene at Brody Jenner’s barbeque is a classic example.

“[MTV] totally set up the BBQ scene for Brody and I to meet each other and talk because, as they said, ‘the audience would get a kick out of seeing ‘the ex’ talking to ‘the new guy,’” Beasley told Best Week Ever’s blog.  “Brody would talk all this s—, then be like, ‘Sorry about that, we’re just trying to make good television,’” says Beasley. “He creates drama and a storyline. That’s why he is there.”

But Beasley doesn’t stop there, even doling the juice on the kind of date one gets with LC, perhaps the most famous reality television star in the short history of the genre.  “She’s kind of a conversation killer, and when the cameras are rolling, all conversation is kept firmly on the surface,” he says.

As for the kinds of things they discussed: “I don’t know—pop culture, Red Bull, stuff like that. In fact, the most interesting thing I got out of her was that she isn’t allowed to eat ice cream because her trainer told her she can’t.”

Will Beasley’s interview have any larger ramifications for the show?  Probably not.  Most viewers probably assume already that a certain measure of control is maintained by MTV.  But what do you think?
