Foster City, Calif. - On the seventh anniversary of the release of the PlayStation 2, Sony Computer Entertainment America (NYSE: SNE) announced on Friday that worldwide sales of the console have reached 120 million units, while more than a billion PlayStation 2 games have now been sold.

"We look forward to the platform's continued growth and expect to sell approximately 12 million units worldwide by the end of March, leading us to anticipate that PlayStation 2's lifecycle will exceed that of the original PlayStation," said SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton.

The company also announced the upcoming holiday release of a limited edition Ceramic White PlayStation 2, which will cost $149 and come bundled with the music-themed game "SingStar Pop" and two USB microphones.

More than 160 new game titles are also expected to ship by the end of March 2008.
