McLean, Va. - Gannett, the publisher of USA Today and 84 other daily newspapers, said on Monday that it has formed a joint venture with Chicago-based Tribune Interactive to expand a national network of local entertainment websites under the Metromix brand.
The newly formed company, Chicago-based Metromix, will focus on launching Metromix.com sites in the nation's top 30 markets, as well as other key metro areas, in the coming months.
It will be co-owned equally by the two parent companies. Other financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Metromix, currently available in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Baltimore and other large Tribune markets, is geared toward young, socially active adults, with most users 21-34 years old.
The site is billed as a one-stop guide to area restaurants, bars and clubs, events, concerts and movies.
The current network receives more than 14.5 million page views from over 1.6 million unique users a month.
