London - Skinkers, a developer of branded desktop applications, such as news readers, has raised $16 million in its second round of venture capital financing, led by Acacia Capital Partners.

Previous investor Spark Ventures, and Skinkers management also participated.

London-based Skinkers' ShouldKnow service delivers information from customers including CNN, the BBC and UPS to the desktops of users who have downloaded its applications.

The company plans to use the funds to further develop its corporate communications platform, as well as to launch LiveStation, its peer-to-peer based online broadcast network for live TV and radio.

Skinkers launched a private beta of LiveStation in September, and said it plans to soon launch a large scale technical trial with "leading global broadcasters."
