Washington - Jeremy Brosowsky, the founder and former publisher of Washington Business Forward magazine, has launched a new Internet media company called Brijit with financial backing from several high-profile technology and media executives.

Brijit's website provides users with brief summaries and ratings of magazine articles from top publishers, including The Economist, The New Yorker and Wired.

Using its own editors and a network of freelancers, it aims to quickly point users to those articles that are worth reading in their entirety.

The company said it has raised between $500,000 and $1 million from several investors, including Ed Mathias, managing director of The Carlyle Group, Dendy Young, the former CEO of GTSI; Herb Allen III, president of Allen & Co; Paulina Rychenkova and Bill Gibson of The Albermarle Group; and Norman Pearlstine, the former editor-in-chief of Time.

The advertising-supported company is Brosowsky's first venture since Washington Business Forward closed in 2002.
