Mountain View, Calif. - Days after Google's (NSDQ: GOOG) plans to launch an open platform for social media applications were made public, the company said on Thursday that it has signed a deal with News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace that will enable its OpenSocial applications to run on the world's largest social network.

Google already said that most of the other major social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Friendster, Hi5, iLike, Slide and Ning will support OpenSocial -- with the notable absence of Facebook, which launched its own developers' platform in May.

"OpenSocial is going to become the de facto standard (for developers) instantly out of the gates. It is going to have a reach of 200 million users, which is way bigger than anything else out there," said MySpace co-founder and CEO Chris DeWolfe.

Google also said that it has approached Facebook about supporting the OpenSocial platform; Facebook had no comment for Reuters on the matter.
