Amy Winehouse Struggles Through MTV EMA Performance

Amy Winehouse LiveA last minute addition to MTV’s European Music Awards, Amy Winehouse offered an unexpectedly bad performance at the show.  You can watch it here.  The soulful singer’s version of “Back to Black” was not her best live effort, and it’s now evident why so many of her past shows have been cancelled.  Winehouse clearly struggles to show up to a live act in top shape.

Winehouse has gained international fame this year for her album Back to Black, though she was well known in Europe before the release.  Her lyrics and voice are some of the most powerful we’ve seen and heard, and she draws inspiration from her real life, which is every bit chaotic as her songs sound.

No word yet on any information surrounding the performance, or reaction from Winehouse herself, which is unlikely to happen.  It’s certainly not the first “disaster” of her career, accustomed as she is to the public’s perception of her lifestyle.

For MTV it’s the second live “bomb” at an award show this year, the first coming in September with Britney Spears at the Video Music Awards in Las Vegas.
