New York - Dow Jones & Company (NYSE: DJ) has announced that The Wall Street Journal now counts over one million paying online subscribers, as subscriptions to WSJ.com increased 25.5% in the third quarter, Reuters reported.
Overall circulation at The Journal, comprising both print and online, dropped 1.5% to 2.01 million during the six months ended Sept. 30.
It has been reported that News Corp. (NYSE: NWS) head Rupert Murdoch, which is buying The Journal and parent company Dow Jones for $5.6 billion, has pondered eliminating the subscription fee for WSJ.com in favor of a free, ad-supported model.
