Diddy made the announcement on OprahFollowing a YouTube campaign seeking a new assistant, hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs announced the winner today on Oprah.  Diddy launched the search at the end of July.  "Forget coming into the office and having a meeting with me and being all nervous," Combs said in the video, which did not offer a job description or list of qualifications.

The position was previously held by Derek Watkins, a.k.a. Fonzworth Bentley, who used the attention to land a recording contract and a line of umbrellas.

Diddy conducted the decision in a reality TV-inspired format, inviting the three finalists to the show before choosing Heather Thompson.  "It was just a passion, it was the way she articulated herself," Diddy said. "I think [she] understood what the job entailed. She had a background that was stellar. It was just the way she came across."

The show’s theme focused on YouTube, with guests including British singer Paul Potts and co-founders Chad Hurley and Steven Chen.  Oprah launched a YouTube channel last week.
