Gannett, Tribune Look to Form Web Newspaper Ad Network

New York - Newspaper publishers Gannett (NYSE: CGI) and Tribune (NYSE: TRB) are in talks with three other publishers -- who are currently in a similar deal with Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) -- on creating a national online advertising network, Reuters reported, citing sources involved in the discussions.

Gannett and Tribune are said to be in talks with Cox Newspapers, Hearst and MediaNews Group, who are part of Yahoo's online newspaper ad consortium that includes 400 daily papers.

Cox Digital Media vice president Leon Levitt told Reuters the proposed tie-up with Gannett and Tribune would complement the company's deal with Yahoo.

Gannett and Tribune are expected to detail their plan to all the members of Yahoo's newspaper network at a meeting next week, Reuters reported.
