Arlington, Va. - PBS, the public broadcasting organization serving 355 noncommercial television stations, said on Wednesday that it has signed separate deals to make its programming downloadable for purchase on video sites BitTorrent and Vuze.

Through the deals, both San Francisco-based BitTorrent and Palo Alto-based Vuze will make available such PBS shows as "History Detectives," "Nova" and "Teletubbies," as well as local programming from some of its affiliates.

Andrew Russell, the senior vice president of PBS Ventures, said that the deals are part of the organization's plan to make its content available "wherever consumers are accessing media."

Just over a year ago, PBS began selling some of its programming through Apple's iTunes Store.
