Report: Mobile Games Revenue Falls 9% in Q2

El Segundo, Calif. - Revenue for mobile games publishers fell 9% in the second quarter of 2007, with slowed growth credited to the low number of mobile games subscribers, according to a report from market research firm iSuppli.

The current crop of mobile games are targeted mainly at casual players, the firm said, and new demographics could be engaged if publishers developed titles that support networked or multiplayer gaming.

Despite the "short-term setback," iSuppli expects mobile games revenue to nearly triple by 2011, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 23.2% from $2.3 billion in 2006 to $6.6 billion in five years.

"While the third quarter performance and the fourth quarter outlook appear optimistic, the pace of growth is slowing, causing great concern to content providers hoping to cash in on this market,"said David Carnevale, vice president, multimedia content and distribution for iSuppli.
