London - Apple's (NASD: AAPL) 8GB iPhone went on sale in the U.K. and Germany on Friday, sporting price tags of about $563 (GBP) at O2 and Carphone Warehouse in the U.K. and $583 (euros) at T-Mobile stores in Germany.

Reuters reports that "hundreds" of Germans queued up in Cologne for a midnight launch, while a T-Mobile store in Frankfurt saw no lines at all.

A T-Mobile spokeswoman told Reuters the company had sold 10,000 iPhones by the afternoon.

Apple will launch the iPhone in France later this month with wireless carrier partner Orange.

The company also confirmed for CNET News.com that it will release OS X 1.1.2 today, which will presumably plug the hole that allowed hackers to unlock the iPhone and deploy third-party applications using the previous update, version 1.1.1.
