Washington - Former Vice President and presidential candidate Al Gore has announced he will join Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a major Silicon Valley venture capital firm focused on technology, as part of the firm's push to fund "green" businesses.

Gore, the chairman and co-founder of Generation Investment Management, will become a partner at Kleiner Perkins, which will co-locate its European operations at Generation Investment Management's offices in London.

Generation bases its U.S. operations in downtown Washington, D.C.

"This alliance brings together world-class business talent to focus on solving the climate crisis," said Gore.

Through a partnership, the two firms will collaborate on investment opportunities in sectors such as renewable energy technologies, cleaner fossil energy and sustainable agriculture.

"Today marks a turning point for climate entrepreneurs around the world," said John Doerr, a partner at KPCB, who will join Generation's board.
