Dulles, Va. - Eight out of ten children (ages 4-17) regularly play computer or video games, as do 38% of adults, but 43% of parents said they never play games with their kids, according to a new poll from AOL Games and the Associated Press.

Among adult gamers, 45% were female, and more than half are under 40 years old; 27% are under 30 years old.

The survey found that younger parents were more likely to play games with their kids than older parents, but overall, nearly three-quarters spent no more than an hour per week doing so.

Forty-one percent of all gamers could be classified as "hardcore," spending at least three hours per week playing, while light gamers (31%) play less than an hour per week on average.

The AP-AOL Games poll of 2,016 adults and 770 gamers was conducted in October by Ipsos.
