Indianapolis, Ind. - ChaCha, a "human-powered" search engine, announced on Wednesday that it has raised $8 million in private equity funding and received a $2 million grant from Indiana's 21st Century Technology Fund.

The $10 million round was led by Morton Meyerson; Bezos Expeditions, Compaq founding CEO Rod Canion, and Vanguard Ventures founder Jack Gill also participated.

Indianapolis-based ChaCha is developing a free desktop search service that offers both instant search results, and the assistance of a human guide via instant messaging.

ChaCha's search engine is currently in beta; the company will use the new funds to launch several services in early 2008.
