DivX Acquires H.264 Video Firm Main Concept for $22 Million

San Diego - DivX (NASD: DIVX), a developer of video compression technology, announced that it has acquired MainConcept, a Germany-based provider of H.264 and other video technologies for the broadcast, film, consumer electronics and computer software markets, for $22 million in cash and stock.

The deal also calls for additional payments of up to $6 million, upon achievement of certain milestones.

"MainConcept's H.264 technology is expected to increase our market opportunity and speed our penetration of key emerging product categories, including mobile, HDTV, set-top boxes and digital still cameras," said Kevin Hell, CEO of San Diego-based DivX.
