WGA StrikersIt seems the writers are winning in the court of public opinion, as Variety points out today.  On Wednesday the WGA brought attention to two polls in which they are clearly winning – Pepperdine, with 69% in support of the union; and SurveyUSA, with 63%.  Our own poll, which you can vote on here, closely mirrors the result of the other two, with 69% favoring the WGA as of now.

The WGA West’s Patric Verrone believes the public’s perception of the situation is one that hits on a larger level.  "These polls prove that the public understands what's at stake here," Variety quoted him saying in a statement. "Our fight represents the fight for all American workers for a fair deal."

The Pepperdine survey was conducted by labor economist David Smith, who believes the writers are in a strong position.  "Public sentiment plus the economic disruption that the strike has caused can serve as powerful leverage and bodes well for writers in ongoing negotiations.”
