Microsoft Acquires Mobile Music Firm Musiwave for $46 Million

Redwood City, Calif. - Openwave Systems (NASD: OPWV) announced on Thursday that it has agreed to sell its Musiwave mobile music service provider unit to Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) for $46 million in cash.

Under the terms, Microsoft will also assume $4 million of net debt.

France-based Musiwave provides mobile music entertainment services to 30 mobile operators in 25 countries, and powers more than 20 full-track mobile music download services.

"Microsoft is committed to delivering connected entertainment experiences for all consumers, including the access to rich music content," said Pieter Knook, senior vice president of the mobile communications business at Microsoft.

"With the acquisition of Musiwave, we are deepening our position in the mobile entertainment market with an innovative provider to help broadly deliver a breadth of music software and services.”
