San Diego - Slacker on Thursday announced the official launch of the premium version of its personalized Internet radio service, and release of its complementary Slacker Portable Player devices.

The Slacker Internet radio service lets users choose pre-programmed stations or create their own artist-based stations, from tracks licensed from all the major labels and many independents.

The new premium version, available for $7.50 per month, removes both ads featured on the basic version, and limitations on the number of tracks users can skip through while listening.

The company's Slacker Portable Player is now available for pre-order through its website, and comes in 2GB/15 stations ($199), 4GB/25 stations ($249) and 8GB/40 stations ($299) models.

The devices simply feature the custom or pre-programmed stations users have set up online, and update their playlists via Wi-Fi or USB connection.

San Diego-based Slacker said consumers also have the option to have their portable players pre-loaded with their favorite stations and linked with their Slacker account before they are shipped.
