New York - NBC (NYSE: GE) has acquired "Quarterlife," an online series airing on MySpace that has its own social network, and plans to turn it into an hourlong TV drama that will likely premiere in February, The New York Times reported. The first-of-its-kind deal included a license fee paid by NBC that "Quarterlife" series creator Marshall Herskovitz described to The Times as "much less than what is paid for conventional shows."

The first eight-minute Web episodes of the show -- which follows a group of twenty-somethings through the blog of the lead character -- recently began appearing on MySpace and Quarterlife.com.

While NBC will post episodes of its hourlong version of the show on its websites, new episodes will continue to air first on Quarterlife.com.
