New York - News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace has partnered with mobile music distributor Textango on a promotion that will provide a free download of an upcoming album from Epitaph Records artists Pennywise, Adweek reported.

The promotion, which will launch in March alongside the release of the album in stores, requires MySpace users to add Textango as a friend, and in return they will gain access to the free download.

MySpace VP of marketing Josh Brooks told Adweek he expects at least the same number of fans who typically buy Pennywise albums (60,000 - 100,000) will take advantage of the offer.

"This happens in a time when the record industry has such a black eye," Brooks tells Adweek. "It's a nice opportunity and a way to get your music out there."

For its part, Textango is looking to build brand awareness for its service, which lets users purchase music downloads via their mobile phones and have charges appear on their phone bills.
