Romantics Sue "Guitar Hero" Makers Over Sound-Alike Recording

New York - Members of the Romantics have sued Activision (NASD: ATVI), publisher of the popular "Guitar Hero" game, over a "sound-alike" version of their song "What I Like About You" featured in the game that the band says sounds too much like their original recording, Billboard reports.

While the majority of the songs featured in the game are original recordings, a number are new versions recorded by Wavegroup Sound, which is also named in the suit, along with game developers Harmonix and Red Octane.

"It's a very good imitation, and that's our objection," attorney William Horton told the Detroit Free Press.

"Even the guys in the band said, 'Wow, that's not us, but it sure sounds like us.'"

The band argues that the game's makers should have sought a license for the original master recording of the song, instead of just the music publishing license they secured.

In addition to unspecified damages, members of the Romantics are also seeking an injunction that would potentially see the game removed from store shelves.
