Corbis to Offer Free, Ad-Supported Stock Images to Bloggers

New York - Corbis, a provider of stock photography, will begin offering bloggers free access to versions of its images that feature embedded advertising, Reuters reported.

Corbis and partner PicScout are currently testing the service at PicApp.com. The free photos will either have an ad overlaid on part of the image, or an ad will pop-up when a user's cursor moves over the image.

Bloggers will also be able to share some ad revenue, based on how many times their site visitors click on the syndicated images.

"We work with a partner so that those pictures are tracked, and if they're being used illegally, we can figure that out," Corbis CEO Gary Shenk said at the Reuters Media Summit.

"But as long as they are downloaded through this application, you're legit and you're ready to go."
