Video Security Developer Irdeto Acquires Cloakware

Hoofddorp, the Netherlands - Irdeto, a unit of media group Naspers that provides content security technology for digital TV, IPTV and mobile platforms, announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Virginia-based Cloakware, a developer of software security technology.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Netherlands-based Irdeto develops both smart card chips and software-based security technology for IPTV, mobile TV and mobile DRM.

Cloakware's technology has been implemented on consumer electronics devices and other products from customers including Texas Instruments, Pioneer Electronics and Vodafone.

The companies said they will jointly offer technology to prevent piracy and subscription fraud in digital video and IP networks.
