A Microsoft Santa Claus bot created to talk to children took on a curriculum of its own this week when it began saying, “It’s fun to talk about oral sex, but I want to chat about something else…,” Network World reported.
The company released a statement on Tuesday explaining the situation: “Yesterday we received reports that the automated Santa Claus agent in Windows Live Messenger used inappropriate language. As soon as we were alerted, we took steps to mitigate the issue, including the removal of language from the agent’s automated script. We were not completely satisfied with the result of these actions, and have decided to discontinue the automated Santa Claus agent.”
The Microsoft Santa bot’s intended purpose was for the IM buddy lists of Windows Live Messenger users. Members of the service could add the bot by posting an address – northpole@live.com – on their IM list.
