McLean, Va. - Clearspring Technologies, a provider of services that help media companies and advertisers syndicate and track widgets, said that it has launched its Widget Ad Network.

The company said the tool will allow publishers to monetize their digital content across social networking sites, start pages and blogs by creating ad networks to serve ads within widgets.

Twelve advertising and publishing firms -- including 20th Century Fox Television, Blockbuster, The Huffington Post, Lionsgate Films, and the National Hockey League -- will use the ad network.

Clearspring also announced on Monday a strategic alliance with Pennsylvania-based PointRoll.

Under the terms, advertisers currently using PointRoll will now be able to use Clearspring's viral sharing technology.

Earlier this year, Clearspring Technologies raised $5.5 million in its second round of funding, co-led by Novak Biddle Venture Partners and ZG Ventures.
