New York - Major record label Universal Music Group announced on Monday that it has signed a licensing deal with the imeem social network, that will provide on-demand, interactive streaming of Universal's music and video catalog to imeem's 19 million users.

The Universal full-length, streaming music videos and audio content will be supported by advertising on imeem, which has similar deals in place with the other three major labels.

"imeem has developed an innovative way to make our artists' music a central part of the social networking experience," said Universal Music chairman and CEO stated Doug Morris.

"More importantly, they've done so the right way -- by working with UMG to provide an exciting musical experience for consumers, while ensuring that our artists are fairly compensated for the use of their works."

The big boys are getting smarter

It is nice to see the big companies are getting smart about doing business on the internet. I operate a similar service to New England music fans, bands and musicians. remember, without the big guns in the music industry we woulden't have the great artists we have today.
