EU Approves Tax Break for French Video Game Developers

Brussels - The European Commission said on Wednesday that France may offer a tax break to video game developers in the country creating titles with cultural content, the Associated Press reports.

The EU had voiced concerns that the tax break could give an unfair advantage over developers in other EU countries, and that culturally irrelevant games could be covered.

However, EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes told AP that France made significant changes to its initial proposal that helped it gain approval.

French developers will now be able to deduct up to 20% of production costs on games that meet certain criteria.
